The IS Director of Software Engineering provides strategic leadership to elevate software quality, security, and delivery effectiveness across the organization. This role leads teams in building secure, reliable, and highly observable systems through automation, standards, and collective ownership, while embedding DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles into the Software Delivery Lifecycle. By fostering best-in-class engineering practices, promoting AI enablement, cultivating an inner sourcing culture, and strengthening engineering standards, this role drives continuous improvement and accelerates delivery of high-quality, scalable, and innovative software solutions. As a multiplier role, the IS Director enables teams to deliver software faster and more safely, with accountability for software engineering control design, adoption tracking, and relevant reporting to ensure measurable impact on the business.

  • Estimated Salary: $155,000 - $220,000 plus annual bonus opportunity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead and manage the I/S Department, including hiring, coaching, and mentoring managers and senior engineers, fostering cross-team collaboration, and building high-performing engineering organizations.
  • Define engineering maturity baselines for DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, rigorously tracking progress with quantitative and qualitative metrics to ensure consistent adoption and deliver measurable value across teams and systems.
  • Partner with business leaders to define and execute the technology roadmap, ensuring solutions align with enterprise goals and standards, and establish measurable criteria to continuously track adoption, effectiveness, and strategic impact.
  • Champion modern software engineering practices and lead enterprise adoption of tools to improve productivity, code quality, and deployment efficiency. Use KPIs, dashboards, and metrics to monitor adoption, developer experience, and system performance, driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead R&D initiatives to evaluate emerging technologies, anticipate trends, and drive innovation in Insurance and IT. Establish measurable experimentation and validation cycles to ensure new capabilities are adoptable, impactful, and sustainable across teams.
  • Oversee planning and execution of key software initiatives, including resource estimation, task allocation, performance monitoring, and ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery of solutions.
  • Drive process improvements and resource optimization by collaborating with business partners, peers, and vendors. Establish engineering scorecards and leverage data insights to measure adoption, quality, reliability, and delivery, identify gaps, and validate the impact of improvements.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 8–10 years of progressive IT experience, including 3–5 years leading and developing professional software engineering teams.
  • Experience in DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), driving secure, scalable, and highly available systems. Skilled in implementing automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and incident management, while establishing metrics and practices that enhance reliability, security, and operational efficiency across the enterprise.
  • Proven IT leader with a strong business partner focus, fostering cross-team collaboration and driving high-performing hybrid and remote teams with engagement, accountability, and consistent delivery.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively, with a track record of optimizing costs while maintaining or exceeding performance standards.
  • Strong project management expertise, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and prioritization across multiple initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive consensus to achieve organizational goals.
  • Superior analytical, conceptual, and decision-making abilities, with a proven capacity to identify, solve complex problems, and make high-quality tactical and strategic decisions.
  • Ability to travel for strategic initiatives, leadership engagements, vendor meetings, and periodic conferences.

  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

  • Master's Degree preferred.
