Courtney Vaughn’s journey is a story of purpose, relationships and growth — both personally and professionally. As a risk consultant at Mutual of Omaha, Vaughn’s commitment to the company’s customer-focused culture and purpose is unwavering.

Her path with Mutual of Omaha began through the company’s Black Employee Resource Group (BERG) – a voluntary professional networking group open to all Mutual of Omaha associates. After learning about the group through a friend, she became interested in applying for a role at Mutual of Omaha.

Once she settled into her role as a risk consultant, she immersed herself in many of the professional growth opportunities at Mutual of Omaha, including BERG.

That opened the door for Vaughn to begin a mentoring relationship with Mutual of Omaha General Counsel Nancy Crawford. With Crawford’s encouragement, Vaughn revisited a childhood dream of pursuing law school and is now enrolled as a law student, supported by Mutual of Omaha’s tuition reimbursement program.

Reflecting on her journey, Vaughn shared that Crawford continues to invest in her growth and development.

“She checks in on me often,” Vaughn said. “She breathes life into me all the time."

This year, Vaughn took on the role of BERG president, where her purpose and passion to create opportunities for others continues to shine.

“I’m grateful for the intentionality behind the growth of our associates, but you also have to put in the work — you must build relationships and be intentional about it,” she said.

That intentionality extends to Vaughn’s faith, community and family.

As an associate minister at her church, she leads multiple ministry groups. She also volunteers with the Empowerment Network, supporting important initiatives within Omaha’s African American community.  And she supports her 8-year-old daughter’s competitive dance, basketball and track programs, often taking on fundraising responsibilities to help other families in need of resources.

How does she juggle it all?

Vaughn said she thrives under “good pressure” that helps her grow and emphasized the importance of self-care. As a competitive bodybuilder, Vaughn invests in her own personal fitness to stay balanced.

“Fitness helps me recharge,” she said. “It keeps me focused on eating right, getting enough sleep and managing my stress levels.”

Whether she’s dedicating her energy to her career at Mutual of Omaha, volunteering in the community, parenting or studying, Vaughn exemplifies what it means to pursue your dreams and make an impact on the lives of others.
