Learning and Development Opportunities for Financial Representatives

Training to be a financial representative at Mutual of Omaha has provided many important opportunities for me, especially when it comes to education and professional development.
For example, through a mentorship program, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from experienced financial advisors — and Mutual of Omaha has amazing advisors!
Each advisor has their own specialty, so I gained a lot of knowledge on various niche markets, such as Medicare planning, Social Security planning, retirement planning, estate planning and long-term care.
Mentorship can help you find the niche that’s right for you. For now, I’ve decided to focus on older adults transitioning from their employer’s health insurance to Medicare.
Coaching
One-on-one coaching has also played an important role in my professional development. As a trainee, there’s so much to learn about insurance products, prospecting, business planning, building client relationships, marketing and more. At the same time, I also need to study for licensing exams.
So, it’s great being supported by coaches who’ve walked the same career path and faced the same challenges. They’ve helped me maintain focus, juggle my responsibilities and stay motivated.
National Sales Symposium
Mutual of Omaha hosts an annual National Sales Symposium where producers from all across the country gather to share information and best practices, evaluate trends in the market, exchange ideas, participate in roundtable discussions and more.
While the speakers and educational offerings were invaluable, networking may have been my favorite activity. Talking to my colleagues about our day-to-day challenges, and success stories, helped me better understand what it takes to succeed as a financial advisor.
I realized it takes a total commitment, giving 110% to help my clients achieve their financial goals. In the process, I’ll deepen my knowledge, skills and experience so that, one day, I can have a business of my own as a licensed financial advisor.
Accelerator Program
After about two years as a financial representative, I’ll have the option to start an independent business as a financial advisor or remain at Mutual of Omaha.
If I start my own business, the Accelerator Program can assist me in making a successful transition. The
Accelerator Program is focused on sales competency, providing field support, helping me establish a client base as well as identifying marketing and prospecting opportunities. With these valuable educational learning sessions, I’ll have a better chance to build a sustainable financial practice and be my own boss.
