Mutual of Omaha Goes Above and Beyond for Military Associates
Mutual of Omaha is proud to receive the Above and Beyond Award to recognize its support for National Guard and Reserve members serving our country.
Lauren Gonzalez, a senior business learning specialist in Workplace Solutions and a staff sergeant in the Nebraska Air National Guard, nominated Mutual of Omaha for the award.
“Mutual of Omaha is very supportive of my military service,” Gonzalez said. “They not only support and recruit veterans, but they also strongly support their guardsmen and reservist associates.
“When I’m on military leave, my personal supervisor is always reaching out to ensure I’m kept in the loop at work and to see how I’m doing. She really shows she cares about me and is so supportive.”
The Above and Beyond distinction was awarded by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office that promotes understanding and cooperation between reserve service members and their civilian employers.
“Lauren really brings the values and skills that she gives to her military service into her everyday work here at Mutual of Omaha,” said Sami-Jo Tatum, Gonzalez’s supervisor. “I admire her commitment to serving our country and her ability to return to work after leave and serve our customers without missing a beat. Our team truly appreciates everything Lauren does, we see her as the superhero of our group. While she’s out saving the world, we’re proud to support her here at home, Tatum said.
“I’m glad to be part of a company that not only celebrates our associates like Lauren, who are active-duty military members and veterans, but also supports them through programs like the Veterans Employee Resource Board.”
The Above and Beyond Award recognizes employers who have gone beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing their guard and reserve employees additional, nonmandatory benefits.
