PFL is a benefit that allows eligible employees to take time off from work to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, or assist loved ones when a family member is deployed abroad on active military service, while still receiving a percentage of their salary.

Eligibility may vary depending on the regulations of each state or country. Generally, employees who work full time or part time and meet certain criteria, including working for a certain period, are eligible. It's best to check specific eligibility requirements in your area.

The duration of PFL could vary based on the laws of each state. In some places, it can be up to several weeks within a 12-month period.

To apply, you typically need to fill out a claim form and provide supporting documentation, such as a birth certificate for bonding claims or a medical certification for care claims.

In some areas, self-employed individuals can opt into PFL. It's best to check the specific provisions in your area.

Employees cannot be charged more under a private plan than they would contribute under the state. Private Plan rates may vary from the state rates and may impact the allowable EE contribution rate. To determine the employee cap for each state, please see below.
